Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to add some fun and creativity to your English classroom!

1. Stupid Cupid
Poor Cupid, he just doesn’t get modern romance!
So why not having students write funny messages to him using today’s slang?
Example: “Dear Cupid, why did you put Ross and Rachel in a situationship? Where’s my main character romance?!” or “Cupid, stop breadcrumbing Rory… send some real rizz her way!”
2. Love Story Mad Libs
Give students a short love story with blanks for nouns, verbs, and adjectives, then let them go wild filling them in.
The results? A hilarious mess that (hopefully) still makes grammatical sense!
3. Good, Old Card Creation
Bring back the charm of handwritten notes! Students can craft Valentine’s cards with puns, poetry, or mini love letters to their friends, celebrities, or fictional characters.
And if you’re a stationary lover like me, you can add glitter, stickers, and coloured pens for extra creativity!
4. The Breakup Letter
Time to say goodbye! Instead of love letters, students write breakup letters to bad habits, overused words, or essay clichés.
Example: "Dear Literally, it’s over. You don’t mean what you say, and I just can’t take you seriously anymore."
Which one would you try?
